Jamie xx: BBC Essential Mix

Jamie xx previews his Radiohead remix...

Jamie xx hopped on the decks to spin a two-hour BBC Essential Mix Saturday night. There's plenty of choice cuts, including tracks from himself and Gil Scott-Heron, James Blake, Wiley, and Orbital. Stick around until the very end, though, when he drops his own remix of Radiohead's The King of Limbs cut "Bloom", which will appear on the Radiohead remix collection TKOL RMX 1234567, out October 10 in the UK and October 11 in North America.

BONT Vaypors

Damn them new loafers hurt my pocket.

After riding my Shimanos for a few years, I am long over-due for a new pair of riding shoes. I looked around and tried on a couple different brands. Gaerne makes an excellent (but expensive) carbon shoe but they seemed to not give enough achilles heel support. I tried on a pair of Sidi's, they were comfortable but I wanted something a bit more Euro and unique. After riding with the Allegiant guys, I talked to Mauricio about his BONT shoes and he had nothing but excellent things to say. And after heat molding them to my feet I understand what he means. My old Shimanos were like flip flops compared to these. I'm still working on a few little quirks but the shoe is just perfect. And they look fresh as fuck!

I'm debating on getting some Speedplays as well. Now is the perfect time to start experimenting with new equipment before I start up Fall/Winter training.

James Blake

I don't know about my dreams anymore.

James has a chat with Pitchfork about his craft and honesty. I'm looking forward to what is in store for this guy. After releasing such a beautiful debut it's crystal clear that he has more to say.

Tycho + Air France Singles

The title of this post may suggest that these two artist are doing a collaborative track, but unfortunately that is not the case. Fortunately, both Air France and Tycho released singles today! It's been about two years since we have heard from these two artist, but that will changes in the next few months...

Just before this past weekend, Joel Karlsson and Henrik Markstedt, otherwise known as Air France, delivered "It Feels Good to Be Around You". Smooth, agile, warm and easy, it's a stand-alone track as familiar in feel as it is sound, almost as if the Gothenberg-based Balear-i-deers hadn't actually been on hiatus for the past two years. Sincerely Yours posted an interview along with the track wherein the twosome fielded questions ranging from the somewhat loopy ("Why are you so ineffective?") to slightly loopier ("Why don't you just give up?") to straight-forward ("Will you play live?"). In addition to shedding light on all of that, they discussed the particulars of the song itself. Mixed by Mancunian producer Star Slinger, "It Feels Good to Be Around You" features a vocal hook from "Tiny", current girlfriend to Markstedt. Tiny's voice dances in and out of focus, often swapped out for seconds at a time for a flinty, manipulated vocal sample from elsewhere. It's a new wrinkle, but tie that all together with a surefire steel-drum melody and some free-swinging synths and you have a song that scans like a band getting re-acquainted with itself and what it does best. It's a song about "love from a distance," they say, "it is sunny, of course." - P4K

For nearly six minutes, Hansen creates a soundscape that's understated but undeniable. It broods and shoegazes while offering mounds of sensuality in its basslines and percussion. Hansen has called the songs from Dive "artifacts from a future." While his world-of-tomorrow arrangements justify the boast, there's still something familiarly melancholic in those synths that could evoke someone's past, as the shimmer and echoes invite listeners to attach their own memories to the song's self-contained universe. - P4K
